The Istanbul Convention is the strongest legally binding tool in Europe to prevent and combat gender-based violence, and it only works if all states fully commit to it. Some countries have not ratified it at all, leaving survivors without crucial protections, while others have ratified it with reservations that weaken its scope, especially on gender, migrant rights, and support services. Calling for full ratification and the removal of reservations strengthens the legal framework against femicide and gender-based violence across all of Europe.
